We can resume night shifts.

One of our care receivers who had been able to walk, but whose ADL level had dropped dramatically and had to be assisted with diapers after being infected by the coronavirus, was able to stop using diapers and use the toilet with Hug.
In addition, as our nursing staff ages, their physical strength decreases due to illness, and it has become impossible for them to do night shifts. Ever since we received the Hug, it has become possible to resume night shifts again as physical strength is no longer necessary to care for the patients. It has also improved our operations.

Dental clinic

Transferring patients to dental units has been greatly improved.

Our dental care center is designed for individuals with disabilities. The introduction of the Hug has greatly facilitated transfers from wheelchairs to dental units. In particular, it has reduced the burden on female dental staff.
At first, we limited the use of the Hug to patients who could communicate,
but we found we could also use it with patients with cerebral palsy who have intellectual disabilities, and it has been well received by patients and their guardians. We look forward to further improvements of the Hug that will allow us to support a wider range of patients in the future.

Hospital

The Hug is already indispensable for transferring patients with a single nurse.

We mainly use the Hug for moving patients to and from the toilet and for moving them within our hospital.
As part of our safe mobility activities, we originally used lifts to move patients. Until now, two nurses were required to use the lifts, but with the Hug, only one nurse is required to move and transfer patients. It has become an indispensable item, and we are considering buying additional Hugs.

Our anxieties about holding and transferring people have disappeared.

Using the remote controller has reduced the physical burden we felt when transferring people while holding them. This is our honest opinion of our first experience with Hug. In care facilities, the problem of back pain among staff is becoming more and more serious. Transferring people while holding them is not only physically burdensome, but also mentally stressful, because they may fall down. Those anxieties disappeared thanks to Hug. In addition to transfer support, Hug is extremely useful for rehabilitation. It helps recover the standing function of care receivers. Being able to create a safe environment for our care receivers is key to our staff happiness.

Individual

Our size difference is not a problem anymore and it completely transformed our lives.

When I first started home care before using Hug, because of our size difference and the fact that my husband is heavier than me, it was really difficult to transfer him from the bed to the wheelchair and from the wheelchair to the bed. When I moved him, we had to turn around together. I was worried about whether I could continue caring for him, as I had broken my sternum.
Thanks to Hug, transferring my husband is not a problem anymore. When I had to transfer him without the Hug, he was always partially seated, and I had to move him to a comfortable position. With Hug, this is not necessary anymore and it completely transformed our lives.

Now 90% of our residents go to the toilet during the day.

One of our major goals since our facility has been established is to find a way to provide smooth restroom access. The introduction of Hug not only reduced the workload of our staff, but also allowed our residents to switch from diapers to toileting based on their wishes and pace. As a result, their activities of daily living and quality of life improved. Today, 90% of our residents go to the toilet during the day, and the increased activities during the day has led to a deeper sleep and fewer diaper changes at night. This has created a virtuous cycle and now our staff members are willing to take on night shifts.

We can now encourage our patients to go to the toilet.

Currently, we have 8 Hugs and they are shared by 24 people. We use the Hug to transfer care receivers from their wheelchair to the toilet and bed, and between their wheelchair and shower chair when bathing them. Ever since we started using Hug, our care receivers were able to go to the toilet, and to go from diapers to paper pants instead. In addition, because they are able to go to the toilet naturally and without laxatives, we refill pads and supplies less frequently, and this has helped us reduce expenditures and waste.
